Waking up with back pain?
Your bed often plays a bigger role than you might think.
A stiff lower back. Tight, aching muscles. The feeling that your body worked harder during the night than during the day. That’s not how sleep is supposed to feel. Back pain upon waking is more common than you might think. And the cause? Surprisingly often… your bed.
A mattress that no longer provides proper support, a sleeping position that throws your body out of balance, or a combination of both prevents your back muscles from fully relaxing. You only feel it when you get up — or when you already dread lying down again in the evening.
Why your mattress may no longer be enough
1. Support in the wrong places
2. Outdated sleep comfort
3. An unbalanced sleeping position

Back pain is personal.
Your mattress should be too.
No two backs are the same. What works for one person may feel completely wrong for another. That’s why we developed the Mattress Test: a smart and quick way to discover which mattress truly suits your body and sleeping position.
What can you try today?
- Do you sleep on your side? Try placing a pillow between your knees for extra pelvic stability.
- Do you sleep on your back? A thin roll under your knees helps your lower back relax.
- Do you sleep on your stomach? It may be time to break that habit.
- Is your mattress older than 8 years? Then a check-up is certainly not unnecessary.
Also pay attention to your pillow: an incorrect height can throw both your neck and lower back out of balance.
Do your symptoms persist? Then professional advice from a doctor or physiotherapist is always the right step. A mattress can help, but it does not replace a medical diagnosis.
